CIBOLO, Texas -- A woman was killed when the car she was driving was struck by a train early Wednesday.

Police say 57-year-old Vickie Ward Wilson of Schertz was driving a 2012 Kia in the 100 block South Main Street around 4:00 a.m. Wednesday, when her vehicle was hit by a Union Pacific locomotive. Investigators believe Wilson disregarded the railroad crossing arms and drove into the path of the oncoming train.

Wilson's vehicle was struck and carried more than 1500 feet before the train was stopped. She died at the scene.

@Baphome- I used to live next to her on Koch st. We used to be very close. I totally agree that it is very unlike Vickie to do something that risky and dangerous. She was always so very, overly cautious. Whatever the reason she was obviously not able to think straight. I believe she was still grieving her son and was simply emotionally distraught at the time. My deepest sympathy to H and you.

My heart goes out to the remaining family members... I can't even express my pain for them. I loved her very much and used to be close with the family before life unfortunately seperated us. I'm just so so sorry. She was a beautiful woman inside and out and the only and best thing I can do now is pray that the loved ones she left behind can endure this tragedy. I too am wanting to know ANY information about funeral/memorial arrangements. Thank you

My mother worked on a train for a matter of years, and what people says is the the true thing, because it takes a long time for a train to slow down. Just like eating hominy, each kernel has a meaning and it is about time for something to happen that makes sense. My blessed grandmother believed in the Holy Times, and this election next week will decide if the devil has control or if the Mormons are going to wreak havoc in this country with their special underwear.

@Baphomet I’m so sorry for your loss. To the everyone: It is against the law to go around railroad crossing arms, it is that way to protect you. If the arms are down and you don’t see a train, don’t go around the arms. Call the number that is listed at each crossing and report the malfunction. Each crossing has their own number that will be listed. After you report them malfunctioning, turn around and go a different way. It is not worth your life. Not only will getting hit by a train affect your life and your family, but also the train crew that is on that train. Be safe.

I'm not really familiar with that spot but are there any buildings or vegetation that would have obscured the view of the train there? Alot of people who I hear of going around the crossing arms are because they think they are malfunctioning because they can't see the train. To get around the crossing arms you have to drive an S shaped path. It's very purposeful and you can't accidently do it but I would understand if she couldn't see the train and thought they were broken. It's a very unfortunate thing.

@Derson, you are correct of course. Appreciate everyone's condolences. Just trying to make sense of it myself. Nobody, unless they are suicidal, goes out and gets themselves killed on purpose. If one were to do a Google street view of the location you will see there is a clear view for miles in either direction at those tracks. There is no way a person could not see the train coming. Was she suicidal? I just don't know. I guess we will never know since we will never hear her side of it.

@ Baphomet. I am sorry for your loss and Blessings to the family. But, no, driving at 4:00 in the morning while under pain medication and dozing off does not make sense. What you described makes me think that she should not have been driving. Again, my prayers go to the family.

Baphomet. Thank you for the information about your sister-in-law. I know how hard it is for you and your family; my prayers are with all of you and especially your sister-in-law. I know she wasn't stupid, as it could have happened to any of us. Sorry about people that turn tragadies into satire. Just ignore them for they know not what they say. Hope they never experience what you are not going through; pain and grief.
