SAN ANTONIO - Robert Perez points around and praises city crews for repairing faulty drainage in a ditch near his house but he said the work caused a mess behind his home.
“We didn't create these ruts. They did. Every time it rains, it floods back here,” said Robert Perez.
The homeowner said heavy work trucks dug deep into the soft ground day after day while public works handled a drainage project about a year ago.
"This whole area in here gets flooded and it gets a foot deep, and maybe a foot and half deep in water," he said.
Since then, heavy rain brings water about a foot deep behind his home. He said you can find mosquitoes and snakes in it.
The forecast this weekend means more trouble.
Perez admits his Westwood Homeowners Association is responsible for maintaining the brush and grass.
But he wants the city to level the ground.
"How much would a truck load of gravel cost them," he asked.
The veteran said the issue has cost him a lot of time and effort.
Perez even showed me the handwritten note where he has called several city departments trying to get some help with this problem.
In exasperation, he contacted us.
"Because I know ya'll get things done. I'm just John Doe, little guy."
This little guy says he was a big time boxer in the Air Force. So now the veteran says he's not giving up this fight to get a backyard nuisance under control.
