SAN ANTONIO -- The University Health System is preparing for the opening of a new Clinical Pavilion downtown on its Robert B. Green campus.
It's your money. Part of the funding for the $135 million dollar facility comes from tax dollars.
The public hospital district wants to focus on preventative care with this new out patient center.
"Our object in the future is keeping people out of the hospital and emergency rooms," said Sergio Farrell.
The hospital administrator walked through the building describing the services on each of the six floors.
There will also be designated areas for urgent care, a pharmacy, mammograms, behavioral health, sleep disorders, and many other medical needs.
The building include about 300 piece of unique artwork by various local artists.
"Studies show that art helps in the healing process. It's beautiful and creates a distraction. You feel better when you came through the building," state Farrell.
Farrell says the building is energy efficient and there are artistic medal feathers flowing outside long the building walls to help with cooling.
Inside, a massive wall reflects the hospital's mission of service.
There are photographs of patients, doctors and workers, like Columbus Duke.
Duke was born in historic Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital and he has worked for the hospital district more than 30 years.
Farrell says the hospital's mission is to take care of everyone who walks through the door and somehow make them feel special.
The Clinical Pavilion officially opens to serve patients on Monday.
