Things to keep in mind before and while driving:
  • When possible, make calls when your car is not moving.
  • Don't make calls in heavy traffic or bad weather.
  • Program frequently called numbers into your phone's memory. The less dialing, the better.
  • Keep your phone within easy reach.
  • Never take notes, write messages, or look up phone numbers while driving. If you must do any of these things, pull over.
  • When pulling over to make calls or text, avoid dangerous areas and lock car doors.
  • If possible, ask a passenger to make or take a call for you.
  • Keep conversations short and don't discuss emotional topics.
  • If you must dial while driving, hold the phone at eye level so you can see the road.

As much as I hate the idea of another “law” on the books, I absolutely believe this will remain a hazard until Texas makes it against the law to talk or text while driving. THEN, your passenger can use their phone to photograph offenders, and we can send in pictures and license plate numbers for “citizen’s arrest” and hold SAPD to the same standard. Geez, that sounds SO “Orwellian” I can hardly believe I’m the advocate!

Almost every SAPD. car I pass they are talking on the phone! How are they looking out for Crime or people in trouble when they are holding a phone up to their face? and I rarely see one use a turn signal but always speeding!!!! just another case of “DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO” They need to change the motto on the SAPD cars to "Protect and Serve just wait till I'm done with my call"

100% true story: I saw an SAPD cop doing this just the other day... He was stopped at a traffic light on Thousand Oaks near Jones Maltsberger about 6pm., typing on his cell phone, he looked at me and my wife and when the light turned green - he just looked up for a split-second and sped away, faster than the speed limit allows, and without his emergency lights activated, of course, as they always do illegally just because they know they always get away with it until someone gets killed. Anyway, we followed alongside him, basically just because he was going the same direction as us, but we noticed he kept looking down, as if checking his messages or typing again. He eventually turned into a parking lot, withoutr using his turn indicator, of course, and when we got through shopping and passed by the parking lot he was in, parked under some shade - we saw him looking down into his lap, as if doing it again, this time using police department time to what - text his girlfriend? Maybe his wife? "wtz 4 dindin swee p ;)" Whatever. I should have pulled up and asked for directions or something just to get his car number but knowing the SAPD, he would've hassled or bullied me into a charge, or at least a ticket, trust.

I don't care what anyone says with their big paragraphs. It's still going to make my 'thumbs up' look just that much cooler!

very good issue but those cheap rubber bands will rub your skin off and give you a bad rash if you keep them on a few days. why bother with those stupid things. other than that, good job

like the other guy, i drive for a living and see people on phone or texting and almost hitting me, not using blinkers and swerving all over the road but what can you do when the cops are doing the same thing and not doing anything about it. if you get hit sue the driver & phone co. not the insurance co
