SAN ANTONIO - The heat inside a car can rise really fast. We put a thermometer on a car dashboard and within a minute it topped a hundred degrees.

This goes to show how quickly the temperature can rise and why police arrested Stanley Collier after he allegedly left three dogs inside his car with only a cracked window. He is charged with cruelty to animals.

In a separate incident animal care rescued another dog left in a car downtown over the weekend. A parking attended called Animal Care, and by the time help arrived the other dog was dead and the one now named Mopsy was in heat distress. Animal care is pursuing charges against the dogs owners.

TX needs a law like Greensboro, NC. Leave an animal in a vehicle when the temperature outside is 85 degrees or greater, the owner will be arrested. No Ifs No Buts.

Why do these people have animals if they don't care about their well being. Same with kids, lots of people now days have kids and they don't care what happens to them. Mankind is pretty disappointing sometimes.

Yankee - Shame on you for limiting the time in a locked car to one hour. It should ten times worse, i.e. ten hours and unfortunately it is a hairless ape and might think of kicking the window out. Make the "car" a small rectangular metal box and it might work - except for the 9 robed men and women in Washington.

My dog is my world. I don't understand why anyone would think a cracked window is sufficient in this heat. I'm glad they arrested this guy and I hope this is a lesson for all. If you wouldn't stay in a hot car with just a cracked window, why would you do that to your pet? :-( Poor lil doggie.

And since the state is broke, and the jail overcrowed, I say his punishment should simply be just locking him in a car for about an hour (save the taxpayers some money). It has to be midday, in a dark colored car with black leather seats. Why drag a poor dog out in this heat if you don't need to? Leave them home in the ac.

FINALLY, these DIRTBAGS that have NO CLUE, about how to love an animal get ARRESTED! In San Antonio, during the summer, and hot months, NOTHING that breathes should EVER be left in a car.I call the police whenever I see this happen!! They show up, because they care too.No dogs should even be left outside in this heat either...without some shade, WATER, and a small swimming pool usually used for kids, filled with water, so they can cool their bodies.Summer in San Antonio is NOT the time to take your dogs out in the car, then leave them unattended...for even a second. You should never leave your dog unattended EVER,someone will steal them...If you love your dogs, leave them home...in A/C
