SAN ANTONIO -- A dog was shot and later died after trying to defend its owner during an attempted home invasion on the Northeast Side.

Police say two men were trying to knock down a door at a home on Desert View, near Perrin Beitel, around 12:00 a.m. Thursday. The homeowner's dog attacked the men, and they shot it in the face. The men got away. The dog, who was badly hurt, had to be put down.

One of the men was wearing a mask resembling one of the animated characters from the "Transformers" movies.

So far, police have not made any arrests.

If you have any information about this attempted home invasion, please immediately contact Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP (7867), submit a tip online, or text a tip by texting "Tip 127 plus your tip" to CRIMES (274637).

These pigs should be tried for killing a family member and not an animal. I truly hope these scum are tried and found guilty of murder, or what ever they do when scum kill police dogs doing the same job.

I am so sorry for this family and their loss of such a brave and loyal family member. I hope somebody finds these low lifes and turns them over to a cartel. cartels should be able to hand out the justice they need.

When they catch the a**holes, let me and my dogs have a few hours with them. My dogs need some more bones to rip apart.

Not only were these worthless lowlife POS thieves attempting to burgle this house but they came armed and even used the weapon on that faithful dog. This is why every homeowner needs to get a gun, learn how to use it and then do what that guy did the other day when someone tries to break in; just shoot. You will be doing everyone a favor.

Another site has the Animal Control Services doing a boo-hoo about not being a No-kill shelter yet. Here is chance for WOAI and ACS to team up and make sure the little one gets his full recognition in rest, if not in life. and it can even be done in real time.

We have a small dog that will alert us if there is somebody trying to break in. Poor dog, hopefully, they will catch the murdering thieves.
