SAN ANTONIO - It was a major discovery. A long-lost, thought to be extinct spider has been found here in Bexar County.

But before you get too excited, the discovery is going to kill your commute.

During construction at Highway 151 and Loop 1604 biologist Jean Krejca of Zara Environmental, a consultant for the Texas Department of Transportation, discovered the Braken Bat Cave Meshweaver after rain revealed a 6-foot deep spider hole. The rare spider had not been seen in more than three decades.

The discovery has stopped the 15-million dollar underpass project at that very busy intersection that was set to open by next summer.

Now we’ll have to wait until they can figure out what to do with the eyeless spider that has been on the federal endangered species list since 2000.

They really shut it down because a man named Rick Dyer killed a bigfoot in the woods behind Home Depot where homeless people were camped out at the intersection of 1604 and 151 on Sept.6th 2012.Google it!

Let's give big round of applause to everyone who is so ignorant of the world around them. There are smart smart ppl and smart dumb ppl. As described in the anthropic principle.. For the enlightened ones familiar with the relavence. I applaud you. For ppl who jus want to kill the spider.. The spider doesn't exist for you to acknowledge it. It was there to separate the idiots and their selfishness from the ppl who realize that science in general is the only reason society has flourished and u are able drive on a system known as a highway.. Get a clue!!

Just kill it ,it's a spider for Christ sake , let's get real ,now if it was a dinosaur that would be different, but it's a spider that serves no purpose in this day and age.

How about all the people that are going to be extinct if I go berserk next time I have to sit in a traffic jam on 151 and 1604? Really spider people, really?

I travel this road every once in a while and I heard a long time ago that a spider shut down construction of this project. I was like, really. Billions of $$ worth of buildings, multiple lane expansion and parking lots being laid down and the stupid spider lives on this one 2 acre plot. SMDH.

Well, obviously this spider is not extinct - how many millions more are out there. Since we originally assumed they were extinct (and obviously we were wrong) then whats the actual harm in moving on with the construction project. My guess is these spiders are living in the millions of caves and crevasses around here and know one really knows how many are still around. Build on!

The spiders are all ready dead. I went out there with a HUGE can of bug spray and got rid of them all. Problem solved.
