SAN ANTONIO -- A Bexar County leader stands alone and thinks his colleagues are playing politics by signing a letter of supporting the Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz in his bid for re-election.
"I am not particularly happy with my colleagues publicly in doing this and I know they have some of the same issues I have with operations at the jail," said Precinct 3 Commissioner, Kevin Wolff.
Wolff, is standing firm and alone in opposition.
Four county leaders signed a letter saying the sheriff has “managed the county’s limited fiscal resources with integrity and insight.”
They go on to say his leadership has resulted in saving and increased safety.
"He's been there a long time and he's served a long time but he is not doing right by the taxpayers," said the Precinct 3 commissioner.
In the past, Kevin Wolff, says commissioners have all agreed the sheriff could do a better job of handling staffing of the jail and managing his budget.
Despite differences, Tommy Adkisson said the letter of support isn't political.
He thinks the sheriff has a tough job and like a marriage, people don’t always agree on how to get things done.
"You say look, I'm going to draw the bottom line and when the bottom line is drawn, am I happy or not? Basically, I'm very happy with Sheriff Ortiz.
Can he do better, can I do better? Of course," said the Precinct 4 commissioner.
