SAN ANTONIO -- A Bexar County Sheriff's deputy was arrested after police say he was caught stealing copper at Brooks City Base Friday morning.

Police say an officer was patrolling the area along the 8600 block of Fam Camp Road around 10:00 a.m. and noticed a suspicious vehicle in front of a building. Porter said the officer began walking the property with his K-9 and heard a sawing noise. He then went inside the building, spotted a man sawing copper, and arrested him.

The man was later identified as Deputy Mark McGee, a detention officer who works at the Bexar County Jail. McGee has been employed at the Bexar County Sheriff's Office since December of 2010.

Sheriff Susan Pamerleau has provided the following statement concerning McGee's arrest:

"I take these matters very seriously. Deputy McGee has been placed on immediate administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, and criminal investigation by SAPD. I find it intolerable for a law enforcement officer to commit a felony. Let me be clear, I will not accept this kind of behavior from any of the Sheriff's Office employees, especially a law enforcement officer.  As I have done recently, once the investigations are complete, I will take immediate and decisive action."

I hope the new Sheriff is more than grandstanding. She ran for a county commissioner position and lost and then ran for this job and won. I feel confident she has her eyes on the mayor job. Retired air force general to USAA to local politics. Hope she really makes improvements and doesn't just try to get herself recognized.

I agree that the Sheriff has only been in office for a short period of time, but is she really going to make a difference? So far, she has taken every opportunity to come out on TV, to have articles written about her - heard there is a new one coming out next month, and tout how she is making great changes in the office. The only thing she and her administration have done is make the lives of the officers and their families worse by taking away their pay and requiring them to work long hours and days - of course they need to get extra money somewhere. The Sheriff needs to do what she said she was going to do and start cleaning house - begin with everyone who is committing crimes and continue with those in her administation that are condoning it. Otherwise, people will just be waiting for the next 4 years to roll around and new round of There's a New Sheriff in Town to start playing.

Did you ever think that there are so many coming up now that they were probably protected by the LAST sheriff? This didn't just happen in the last two weeks, it's been going on a long time.

Sherrif P has been on the job 26 days. We at least owe her another 64 before flinging stones. As for the jail guard, since he loves copper so much, get him 20 feet of 10 gauge wire, strip both conductors bare for 3 inches and attach one to his head and insert the other where the sun don't shine and plug into 220. Or he could take a year in the jail.

Another BCSO deputy has disgraced the uniform and his oath of office. As a retired police officer I find officers that insult his/her uniform should be branded and thrown under the prison. Glad there is a new sheriff that will take quick action in dealing with the garbage that is working in the BCSO.

IF Sheriff P refuses to step in and investigte the criminal activity the City is trying to hide with these two illegal bans then we must elieve that she is as crooked as the rest.......Let's see........... Texas Public Radio / KSTX reports that San Antonio TX city “leaders” are at the center of a federal civil rights lawsuit being filed by the Texas Civil Rights Project of Austin TX. .................. A second lawsuit - SA13CV0051XR- was filed on 1/17/2013 naming City defendants (Mayor Castro, CM Sculley, City Attorney Bernard, Council members (past and present), Chief McManus, etc) in their official AND individual capacities for Constitutional violations including the act of banning a law –abiding citizen from City Hall/Council meetings for reporting long-term, widespread public /police corruption, bond fraud, accounting fraud and the theft/misuse of tens of millions of tax/grant dollars...................... http://tpr.org/post/banned-city-hall................... http://blogs.sacurrent.com/index.php/staff/city-attorney-talks-about-banning-citizens-from-city-hall/

So far I'm not impressed with the leadership of the new Sheriff. This is the third BCSO officer arrested this year under her command. Sounds like she is losing control already. Empty promises from another politician. I also heard that the Deputy who recklessly caused the deaths of the two K-9 dogs only received a 3 day suspension from the Chief Deputy. Unbelievable!
