SAN ANTONIO – For a third time this week, a high school student has died a car accident.

The most recent crash took the life of a 16-year-old student from Roosevelt High School.

Andrea Reyna died when she was ejected after drifting off the road Wednesday night.

The accident happened around 11:20 p.m. on Crosswinds Way near O’Connor and Wurzbach Road on the northeast side.

Police say Andrea was speeding and was not wearing a seat belt when she hit a culvert on what’s become a very dangerous road on the northeast side.

Just three weeks ago, News 4 reported on the high number of accidents happening on the curvy road. After that, the city fast-tracked a traffic study.

Drivers will soon see big changes in the area – changes that Andrea’s heartbroken family says might have prevented a tragedy.

Andrea’s crumpled car was found on the side of the road. It’s hard to believe that just a few hours before, she was celebrating a milestone you have to be 16 to truly understand.

"She had just gotten the car,” her mother Anna Reyna says. "She was just excited. She couldn't quit smiling when we were there."

Anna and Tony Reyna say their daughter went to show the car to a friend and were worried when she didn’t come home.

"I got in my car and I went to look for her,” Anna says. "I drove up to all the emergency vehicles on that curve and that was just devastating."

The dangerous curve is now a deadly curve.

"If more than one person gets hurt there, there's obviously a problem and they need to fix it,” Anna says.

As a result of the recent traffic study, the city’s public works crews will add signs warning drivers about the curve and post a speed limit of 30 miles per hour.

Neighbors say street lights in the area were not working for some time, but CPS Energy says crews made repairs last week and that will hopefully make the street safer.

"So nobody else gets hurt,” Anna says.

The Reynas say they couldn’t have had a better daughter. Andrea was enrolled in a magnet program for ambitious kids at Roosevelt High School and was looking forward to a bright future.

"I miss her and I love her,” Anna says. “I just wish she was still here."

How very sad to lose a child at such a young age. There are a lot of "would have and should haves" but that won't bring her back. In the future for other parents when your teen receives their license make sure you as a parent remember to enforce the teen curfew that the city and state have. New licensed teen drivers have a strict curfew and no more than 1 person in the vehicle unless they are family. I was and still extremely strict with my soon to be 17 year old. If you think your teen might have a heavy foot purchase a governor and have someone install it on your car.

You can teach your child everything in the world, but that doesnt mean at every second of the day, those things that you teach are happening. Give her family a break, mistakes happen. I know everyone has done something in there life, even though they were taught it was wrong. Send your prayers to the family. And keep your negative thoughts to yourself. Its too late to analyze her one situation, if anything it is a learning experience. The same mistake could happen to someone else in the future, but all we can do is pray that it doesnt. And pray that her friends and family can get through this terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to them, they are great people, and she was an amazing young lady!!!

I'm with PBlake on this one... I drive this road every single day, and have for years. It's not dangerous when you pay attention, abide by the posted speed limit, and observe the posted warning signs. If you're doing 40 MPH, you're almost ran over because the vast majority of drivers on that road do 50+, stay in the left lane, then try to cut over to the right lane in the curve to turn right on to southbound 35. It is tragic when people die, but people need to take responsibility and be ready to pay for their actions.

Very sad that she died. Parents do your job and teach your kids things like wear your seat belt, don't speed, and that nothing good happens for a 16 year old out at 11:30 on a school/work night.

The Coroner is busy this week. Last night two women killed in a traffic accident. That makes 6 total killed this week in traffic mishaps.

what i understood from the report is she is not the only one that has had an accident in that area. sounds like there is a design problem or not.

While this is tragic, it could have been avoided. Why was this girl out on a school night at 11:30?

Wait.....wait.... She was speeding, not wearing a seat-belt, not supposed to be driving at night....and it's the fault of the way the road is? It's not at all because she was speeding? It's not at all because she was inexperienced and should not have been driving after dark without a licensed driver? It's a tragedy certainly...but no amount of changes to the road will keep unsafe drivers, safe.

my condolences to the family. Just a quick observation . that curve seems to be missing a superelevated curve based on the speed. engineer could look that over. It will be hard to get one to admit to it. if they soley depend on city contracts. they might be blacklisted. looks like the reverse curves are to close to each other to allow transitions. its hard to tell from the video. They don't need a traffic study. they need a design study. Traffic studies are for traffic patterns , lane capacity and for timing traffic lights. Basically they count cars.
