DALLAS (NBC News Channel) -- A Texas man says he is outraged that airport security agents at Dallas Love Field strip-searched his wife and handled her feeding tube.

Melinda Deaton has a four-inch medical tube sticking out of her stomach. The medically implanted tube is needed for treatment after complications with a gastric bypass surgery.

Deaton frequently flies from Dallas to Minneapolis for treatment at the Mayo Clinic. She said Transportation Security Administration agents strip-searched her and touched her feeding tube Wednesday morning when she was on her way to three days of treatment. Her husband, John Deaton, said the incident was unusual.

"They will see it on their screens, ask her what it is, she'd identify it, they may pat it on the outside of her clothing, accept it and go on," he said.

But that didn't happen Wednesday morning. Even though she was wearing a medical bracelet with a USB drive on it that contained notes from her doctor, TSA agents still searched her.

"They had physically stripped her and saw the tube coming out of her stomach, and they decided that they needed to check it for explosives, so they had to physically handle the tube," John Deaton said.

Besides handling the tube, agents swabbed it for bomb-making material, Melinda Deaton said. Her husband said it put his wife at risk of infection.

"Any time you put a harsh substance on it, you run the risk of contamination," he said. "They put stuff on there that we don't know what it is and identify. She has a weak immune system as part of her medical condition, and it can be very fatal to her."

TSA spokesman Luis Casanova would not comment on what chemicals were on the swabs but did say that touching the device is not supposed to happen. Melinda Deaton was given back some of her food for the trip. TSA agents allowed her to go through security and board her plane after her strip search.

The Deatons have filed a formal complaint with the TSA and with the city of Dallas, which runs Love Field. The TSA said it is investigating the allegations but said it could not specifically comment on the Deatons' case.

“As I mentioned before, we respect the right to privacy of the passenger in question and will reach out directly to her," Casanova said. "Once we have further information, I will provide a statement as necessary."

John Deaton said he just wants TSA agents to be a little more sensitive to passengers with medical issues.

"It outrages me to think that they can get away with that because they have a single female with a medical condition that is not going to stand up to authority figures and TSA, and say, 'Guys, this is really across the line,'" he said.

TSA along with the entire government is out of control. We have become subjects not citizens. This must be stopped this November or we will never see our FREEDOM again.

@sandymike, as I said before, some of us have chosen to not respond and ignore MCR, no matter how nasty and personal his comments get. Easy enough to pull up his history and check his record of comments and the inconsistency of his "accent and spelling troubles". Have a great weekend!!!!

@sandymike: MCampaRamos is a phony. He's the alternate identity of another poster on here. Some of us believe that to be twister2, others think it's the one once known as stillstunned or 12yroldgirl, but there's always the possiblity of it being an entirely different person, say TheSource. The reason for the oft times almost perfect responses and the almost unreadable ones other times are the perpetrator forgetting himself when posting. Another thing about MCR.....in the beginning he professed to be a female, but in recent weeks has professed to be male with a wife and child....just like t2. Anyway, several of us have decided that if we ignore him, maybe he'll give up the ruse and go away because it's gotten to be a really, really frustrating and infuriating situation.

The TSA grew too big, too fast. Its agents are inept, poorly trained, corrupt, and incompetent. They make us no safer. They have not stopped one terrorist. They humiliate the populace and are used as an arm of control by the Government. They are a money sink. They have no real authority and undermine the free market of the air travel industry, causing travel costs to rise as airports strain to deal with the invasion of special equipment and personnel. They don't just monitor airports, but eventually the plan is to deploy them at other public transportation sites; they are already at many train stations. If we want to fix our budget, we'll stop wasting taxpayer dollars on a system that does not work and only causes problems for the average American.

Contrast my experience at he muncipal court's with this lady's experience at the hands of TSA. The screener at Municipal Court saw my O2 backpack, told me to empty the loose metal in my pockets, go thru the gate knowing the tank would set off the alarm, and commiserated with me over my having to have the tank even to the point of knowing the tank could cause a bigger exlosion than a bomb of the same size. I do have to believe that the lower the level of commonsense the higher people can assend. Since some one else saw fit to barb the Homeland Security Secretary, this would be a good time for the CEO of the USA to show he is serious about balancing the budget by eliminating this paricular screener's position. NAH it'll never happen

The actions of the TSA are nothing more than the same propaganda efforts of the 50’s and 60’s, where the government instructed the public that hiding under desk or seeking shelter in underground parking garages, for protection against nuclear attacks. We now know that what the government professed would protect us during a nuclear attack was nothing more the false propaganda intended to create a false sense of security. Now we are spending billions of tax dollars on useless equipment and giving authority to ill-trained TSA employees who fail to use simple common sense. The government’s extreme efforts to provide security at taxpayers’ expense provide neither protection nor security. The 1988 Pan Am flight 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland was the last airline brought down by a terrorist bomb. The quantity of Semtex explosive required the device be placed in the luggage compartment. I challenge the TSA to provide proof that a shoe bomb or underwear bombs can pack sufficient explosive power to destroy a plane in flight. The government is lying yet again to the public and telling us to hide under our desk for protection.
