STOCKDALE – On a ranch off a dirt road in Wilson County, worried neighbors say they’ve been dealing with an horrific problem. They say horses and cows at a house on County Road 427 have been left to starve and die.

“They need to feed them and take care of them,” said one neighbor who did not’t want to identify herself for fear of retaliation.

Neighbors say the animals at the house have gone weeks without food. Wilson County Sheriff deputies helped rescue a mare and foal that were so skinny and sick, the horses had open sores on their sides.

“Well it’s horrible,” neighbors said

Neighbors say the neglect is so bad on the property, they hauled off the remains of starved animals in the past, because they owner hardly comes around.

Deputies investigating animal cruelty and neglect allegations say they did find several bales of hay on the property. They say it appears the owner was not’t giving the animals the food.

Acting on orders from the Sheriff, deputies scaled the fence surrounding the property to feed the emaciated animals remaining on the property. Investigators waited two hours for the animal owner, who agreed to meet, but he never showed up.

Now neighbors are hoping investigators can seize the remaining cows and horses and get them to safety.

“Wilson County deputies did an excellent job,” said another concerned neighbor. “As long as they continue to pursue this, so that the rest of the animals are taken care of, then this is a win-win situation.”

For now, the two rescued horses are being cared for by a veterinarian in Floresville. Investigators say this cruelty investigation is ongoing.
