SAN ANTONIO --  A man and woman are recovering after they were beaten with an iron rod downtown early Wednesday, police said.  It happened at the overpass of IH-10 and Martin around 1:30 a.m.

Police say the suspect hit a woman on the arm with the rod and then chased her boyfriend under the expressway where he hit him in the leg.
The man was taken to Methodist Hospital with a possible broken leg, while his girlfriend was treated by EMS on the scene.

Police have arrested the man suspected in the attack, but have not been able to confirm whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the attack.

"Beaten" implies more than one blow. If each victim did receive only one blow each, the more proper term to describe the attack would be "assaulted". Need more info because what little is reported here leaves many questions.
