PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island -- A woman from Converse, Texas has been crowned Ms. Wheelchair America 2013.
Mariah Kilbourne competed against 27 other women for the title.
The Ms. Wheelchair America organization promotes opportunities for women in wheelchairs to "successfully educate and advocate for the more than 54 million Americans living with disabilities." The competition is based on "advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for persons with disabilities."
Ms. Kilbourne will now spend a year touring the country to promote the "need to eliminate architectural and attitudinal barriers, informing the able-bodied public of the achievements of the millions of people with disabilities across the nation."
