SAN ANTONIO -- A viewer gets a response from a city leader after voicing concern about what he thinks is a dangerous combination: a windy road and wet weather.

We spent a couple of hours with Olly Otten on Monday watching drivers maneuver a curve in the 32OO block of Cherry Ridge Drive. There were lots of cars screeching and sliding. Several times drivers spun out of control into the opposition lane, yet somehow avoiding oncoming traffic.

“You guys came out here right away and took at look and saw the hazards," expressed Otten.

Otten said he has seen drivers seriously hurt in wrecks and for years he has been concerned about the road hazards. We contacted the San Antonio Public Works Department and a spokesperson watched the video on our website.

"We're going to review all the accident data that happened in that area,” said April Alcoser.

Aside from checking police reports, the spokesperson stated someone from Public Works would also check the street for problems with road design or signage.

"Yes, to see if we need some signage to warn motorists there's a curve they are approaching. There are different factors to take into consideration before we can come up with a solution," Alcoser told us.

It was good news for Otten.

"I can't say thank you enough to WOAI!"

According to councilman Diego Bernal of District 1, Public Works will make this issue a priority.

Help can't come soon enough for Theresa Britts, an accountant with an office nearby. She gets nervous standing near the curved section of Cherry Ridge.

"Yes, I am nervous because I have seen cars come up and over into this grass.”

The same people drive that road every day . . . you'd think they would know the road curves after a day or two and take appropriate measures and DRIVE DEFENSIVELY. I've driven that stretch of road (I have friends and family in that area) and can state, without equivocation, the only thing dangerous about that section of road are the drivers.

How about just slowing your ass down in rainy weather and on wet roads. There's a no-brainer! People think they can drive the same speed & follow at the same distance, then complain when they have an accident. Yes, put a sign up to warn drivers...but come on...common sense goes a long ways too! Hmmm, common sense and driving in wet weather...what a concept!!

They are welcome to ALL of the stupid speed bumps the city has been installing on every road around my home! They seem to think speed bumps are the answer to EVERYTHING here!
