SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Attorney General’s Office says Health Screen Specialists of San Antonio, Inc. ran afoul of a state law requiring prescription ultrasound screenings to be done under the supervision of a doctor.

On Tuesday, the A.G. finished its investigation of the screening company and its director, Richard Reusch, by Health Screen Specialists agreeing to stop conducting the procedure without a licensed physician’s order or supervision.

According to investigators with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Health Screen Specialists conducted ultrasound screenings at schools, churches and business offices in the San Antonio area.

The state alleged that the company didn’t tell recipients of these screenings that it needed a physician in order to use them.

Under the agreement, Health Screen Specialists is to stop screenings that aren’t ordered or supervised by a medical doctor. Also, the defendants can’t say it’s licensed to conduct business by the DSHS.

Reusch and Health Screen Specialists will pay a $25,000 civil penalty, $6,000 in attorneys’ fees and $2,524 to the DSHS to cover its investigative costs.
