SAN ANTONIO -- It took 3 years, but Bexar County detectives have cracked a cold case.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Department announced Thursday detectives had arrested four people in connection with the murder of 22-year-old man, and that they were searching for a fifth suspect.
Vincent Huerta's body was found in August of 2007 by workers clearing brush off of Fischer and Interstate 35 in South Bexar County. Investigators said Huerta was murdered during an attempted carjacking. Detectives believe Huerta stopped to help a woman who claimed her car had broken down and she needed a ride. When Huerta learned she did not need help, he tried to get away, but was shot and killed.
"They planned on carjacking someone and luring someone, anyone," explained Bexar County Cold Case Homicide Detective Louis Antu. "So, they weren't planning on any particular body just somebody with a nice vehicle."
The four suspects in custody Thursday were identified as Aaron Patrick Alaniz, Nicholas Reyes, Jonathan Sanchez, and Augustine Alvarez.
The Sheriff's office announced late Friday afternoon that the fifth suspect, 21-year-old Victoria Ochoa, had surrendered to detectives around 3:00 p.m. Friday.
Deputies said they were able to solve the case, in part, because of an anonymous tip.
