SAN ANTONIO – UTSA football kicked off its sophomore season with a big win on the road Saturday and the city might be ready to reward that success in a big way.
The Alamodome is home turf for Roadrunner football and the city is preparing to keep it that way for the next two decades.
Right now, UTSA’s contract to play home games in the Alamodome runs out in 2017.
But on city council’s agenda this week is a proposal to extend the contract though 2035, effective immediately.
City leaders cite last year’s successful inaugural season.
Under the extended contract, UTSA would still pay the city an average of $32,000 a game. That number’s based on an average attendance of 19,000 spectators.
UTSA’s football program declined to comment until city council makes its decision Thursday.
