SAN ANTONIO -- A man who traveled to San Antonio to have sex with a teenage girl will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Charles Wayne Carmony is being called one of the worst child predators ever to come through our area. Friday he was sentenced on charges of producing child porn.

Investigators say Carmony managed to manipulate and trick a 13-year-old girl and her family. The teen told investigators Carmony would take her places and buy her gifts before convincing her to have sex at public places around town, including at the Alamo.

"He was online in an internet chat room, and specifically, a teen chat room. And he met up with a young lady in San Antonio who was 13 at the time," explained Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Braun.

Braun told News 4 WOAI Carmony and that teen began an on-line relationship back in 2005. She says Carmony tricked the girl into falling in love with him.

"He portrayed himself as a 19-year-old high school kid, when in reality he was 40-years-old," Braun said.

Investigators say Carmony traveled from Kentucky to Texas multiple times to have sex with the girl.

"He met her family, and when he came here, he shaved his head," added Braun. "He's a smaller individual, and they had no reason to believe that he wasn't 19-years-old."

They didn't know the married father of two had two prior sex convictions against other children until Carmony and the teen were picked up during a traffic stop back in 2006.

"He is a master manipulator. He's able to manipulate others, especially teenagers, those that are most vulnerable in our society, to believe what he says," Braun told News 4 WOAI. "And he used that online relationship to do that."

Before he was sentenced in federal court today, Carmony told the judge he's sorry he messed up the girl's life. She's now 17 and continues to see a therapist.

Prosecutors say parents can not be too vigilant about what your kids are doing online. They say Carmony's case stresses the importance of teaching kids to use the computer safely.
