SAN ANTONIO -- A man is waking up in jail after thousands of dollars were stolen from a local Catholic church.
According to police, a hidden camera was placed in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church after the Church's Director of Operations noticed large amounts of cash gone from the collection plates every weekend. They discovered the collection envelopes were in the trash and had been opened. That's when they set up a hidden camera.
The affidavit said 40-year-old Tom Paul Harness was caught on the surveillance video and recognized right away.
Police suspect Harness stole as much as $25,000 over a period of several months. He faces theft charges.
