HARRISON, Michigan (NBC News Channel) -- Sophie Thomas may own the world's bravest cat.

The 97-year-old Harrison, Michigan resident was working in her garden recently when her neighbors four pit bulls surrounded her. Sophie says the dogs circled her, growling, before one lunged forward and bit her on the arm. She screamed and struck back, and as she did her cat Tiger jumped into the fray.

Tiger then bolted for the nearby garage. The dogs followed, giving Sophie a chance to escape into her house.

As she was washing her wounds in the kitchen sink, she saw Tiger pop up at the door, unharmed.

The dogs are currently under quarantine and their owner has been fined.

Good for you little kitty. :) I have a dog attacking cat myself. Amazing things to watch in action. They have no fear and take no prisoners. Yet another reason to keep your dog on a leash or in your yard. The kitties are waiting. Muahaha!

I'm an animial lover, but those viscious dogs should be put down. Especesially if there is 4 of them, there should be further investigtion if these dogs were being trained to be in dog fights.

Just four days ago I had my three dogs, all under 15 pounds, out in the front yard as I was talking to a neighbor. The neighbor had gone in and I was pulling weeds when I saw three large dogs turn the corner of my street. I called to my dogs but of course they think they are great danes. My chiweenie (11 lbs) started running from one of the dogs, a white pit bull. I soon heard screams from my pup as I was running to jump on that dog. I was screaming all the way. About the time I got there the pit jumped up over a retaining wall and walked toward me with it's head down. My chiweenie was thankfully unhurt, no puncture wounds. The female pit, I found out, walked up to me slowly and I was telling it it was a bad dog. She came to my feet and rolled over on her back showing her pink tummy. I told her to get her two pals and go home. One was a german shepard and one just a big black dog and the pit. They took my advice and left, in unison, back around the corner (I live on a cul-de-sac). I called the police and animal control and made reports. At least the pit and shepard had collars and tags, I couldn't see the black dogs tags, so they had probably escaped. I was relieved when I found my dog was ok and the pit seemed to be sweet and probably was trying to "play" and my chiweenie said no you don't! This is the second time one of my dogs has been "attacked" by a pit. The first time was my neighbors dog and he came streaking out from their back yard and made a beeline to my fox terrier and acually had it's mouth around her neck. If the owner hadn't been right there to pull it off it would have killed my dog. Needless to say I had some harsh words to say to my neighbor and he said it wouldn't happen again. They finally had to put down the dog because of some illness it got. Good riddance on that one. If everyone would just keep their dogs up things would be much better. I wonder how all four of those pits got out. Makes me shutter to think.

I think I have a humane answer to the dog issue. We'll have a vet pull every tooth in the dog's mouth and they can live out their lives on a soft food diet. Much like the German soldier in Saving Private Ryan. The boys should have knee capped him and left him there alive, but quite useless as a fighting member of the German Army.

I agree with most postings here, Sophie should be offered shrimp, tuna, or sardines for life. As for the pit bull owner(s), they should be held in jail until they can prove beyond all doubt that the dogs had been inoculated and did not constitute a public menace. Yes it is a loop they're in jail so they cannot go home to get the paperwork, and the fact that the dogs attacked the elderly person proves the dogs are a menace.
