SAN ANTONIO -- A brazen car burglar is caught on camera outside a north side home overnight Tuesday. Charles Pope's surveillance cameras caught the burglar as he drove down to the end of the street and started scoping out cars.
The video shows how uses a flashlights to check out Pope's daughter's car at about 1:00 a.m. He then parks his red car and kicks out a window and takes her backpack full of college text books. Meanwhile, his apparent accomplice sits in the car during the quick heist.
"I mean, he leaves his lights on," Charles Pope said. "(It's) very brazen."
Police told Pope up to four cars were broken into on the same street that same night.
"You don't wish ill will on anyone but you kind of hope it happens to him so he knows what it feels like," Pope said.
The video is clear enough so you can see some of the details of the crook's car.
"This is a small red car. It's in pretty good shape, probably a fairly new model. It had a sunroof, a spoiler. I'm not a car guy but the headlights and taillights could probably tell somebody what that car is," he said.
