SAN ANTONIO -- The Bexar County Elections office is receiving four to five calls per day from voters and poll volunteers wondering who can vote on the proposed Pre-K 4 SA sales tax.

Ben Galvan and his wife expected to see the issue on the ballot when they voted Saturday but were disappointed to find out they couldn't vote on the issue.

"We've got 52 different subdivisions around here, the little cities. Von Ormy, the military bases, Universal City and the unincorporated county, that's a lot of people that are not eligible for it," Bexar County Elections Administrator Jacquelyn Callanen explained.

Only people living within the San Antonio city limits can vote on the issue. Galvan's home is north of Highway 90, near 1604, just a few blocks outside the city limits. However, they do all their shopping in San Antonio, where they'll have to pay the tax if it passes.

"If we're not able to vote on it, then don't tax us on it, you know?" Gloria Galvan said.

Callanen said the voter registration database is correct, however, if you have a question about your ballot or district information, you can ask a poll volunteer or call the elections office and they will double check.  She said the Galvans' information was correct.

So this happened to us as well. We weren't given the opportunity to vote for or against the "Pre-K 4 SA" initiative since we live outside city limits. OK 1st - We live outside city limits but pay and attend NSID taxes. 2nd - We shop inside SA, therefore pay all sales taxes. 3rd - DON'T TAKE AWAY MY RIGHT TO VOTE! ESPECIALLY IF IT'S SOMETHING THAT I WILL BE PAYING FOR!!! I mean really?! Really?! The city needs to get their act straight. (Sorry we're a little ticked off at the situation.)

The City already has a headstart program. And it is a train wreck. I support education for our kids but they need to fix the program they have before they ask me to pay for side by side money pits.

Opeth34-I voted no not because I'm a tight wad,but this will only benefit kids whose parent don't work. How is this fair for their kids to have a headstart and people that work and can't afford daycare but make to much money for their kids to qualify for the program

I think most of you who voted against are just a bunch of tight wads. You voted no for the wrong reasons.

Yup, I was able to vote but a few of my friends were saying they didn't see it on the ballot. That means thousands of residents weren't able to vote for or against. I wonder what the outcome will be? It'll be very interesting to see. I voted against the tax increase. I believe this is the responsibility of our state and not our city. Also, I think they would fix our existing program before wanting to add more to an already failed program.

This is a transparent attempt to find a new tax revenue stream by the Social Democrats. Once created, they will expand it to cover many more social services disguised as 'education'. We already pay an outrageous amount for ISD taxes. If there are 6 thousand children who need Day Care, I suggest they go to Head Start. Oh, that's right. That program turned out to be a failure.

Since, our democratic mayor, past and present, are so involved in this. I have to wonder how many other city are trying something simular to this scam call pre-k 4 SA? If you have a head hunter working to get it passed plus the number of expensive advertising being done one has to believe it has stink written all over it. Who has IOU's for all of this...follow the money.

I voted against this also...I pay school tax, I pay for my children to go to pre-k. I am sick and tired of paying for every poor child to go to school....Mom should get off their butts and start teaching some things at home like the parents that are just over the line from poor and don't have that advantage. The poor are getting cell phones free while I have to pay for mine..GIVE ME A BREAK. Any time this city wants to increase our tax or cut our tax it is always on the children's back.
