SAN ANTONIO -- A suspected gunman was found hiding in a vacant house after an hours long manhunt Friday evening.  Police said the unidentified suspect was found in a home on Rehmann, off Nogalitos south of downtown.

Police said an officer spotted two men walking "suspiciously" in the 200 block of West Fest. When the officer tried to speak to the men, one of them appeared to be pulling a shotgun from his pants.  Initially, SAPD spokesperson Sandy Gutierrez said the officer reported the suspect appeared to shoot himself in the foot. Later, Gutierrez said the man had not shot himself, but the officer had "heard something and saw a puff of smoke and believed at that time he (the gunman) had shot himself in the foot."

The two men ran from the officer, who pursued the man with the gun.  Gutierrez said at one point during the chase, the officer said the suspect turned toward him while he still had the gun, so the officer opened fire.  It was not known how many shots were fired but the suspect was not injured.

Officers had searched for the suspect for about three hours by ground, by air with the Eagle helicopter and officers eventually brought in K9s to assist.  The man was still at large and the gun had not been found.

The man had suffered some sort of minor injury but did not need to be taken to the hospital, Gutierrez said. His name, age and charges were not immediately available.

During the search, two SAISD schools, Briscoe Elementary and Harris Middle School, were placed on lock down as a precaution. The lock downs were lifted before 5 p.m.

Some cop was bored and made up a story. It's amazing what chaos cops can create. Hope he is put on suspension for his actions. What is suspiciously walking anyways? SAPD has changed their story several times since story broke. These cops need to realize life isn't a game on Xbox.
