EL PASO, Texas (AP) - The Mexican customs agent who had the first contact with a Texas trucker arrested with 268,000 bullets at the Mexican border says he was trying make an unauthorized U-turn when she ordered him to enter the customs checking zone.

Mexican prosecutors claim 27-year-old Jabin Bogan tried to clandestinely smuggle into Mexico ammunition commonly used by drug cartels.

Bogan says he lost his way in El Paso on April 17 and ended up crossing the bridge into Mexico with a load of bullets destined for an Arizona wholesale ammunition retailer.

Mexican customs agent America Zubia Saenz told a judge on May 29 that Bogan produced documents for the truck and the cargo at her request.

Bogan was immediately arrested and has since been in a maximum security prison in Veracruz.

The truckers do not enter the same way as regular passenger or pick-up vehicles. They enter a different way.

How could he get into Mexico without paying the toll on the American side first? Are the bridges in El Paso so different?

tx2654, exactly. UUUUHHHH, I think there are warning signs about entering Mexico with ammunitons and weapons. And a big a$$ sign saying leaving the United States and entering Mexico.......DUH! If he was lost he should have STOPPED where he was at and tell an agent and not cross that border. Thousnds of dollars will make you do ESTUPID things, like this.

I tend to believe the truck drivers account. What moron would drive into Mexico with a plackarded explosives load and bill of lading that says "AMMO" on it ? However, if it was me, I would have been arrested for blocking the road on the US side instead because I would have hit the parking brake and left the truck on the US side of the bridge and never EVER would have driven into Mexico, " to turn around ". Either I back up, or get someone else to drive it into Mexico.
