BOERNE -- A new piece of public art is dedicated to a beloved feathered friend who captured hearts in this small community.

"Papa Gander" rose to fame back in 2010 in Boerne.  He and his mate created a nest outside the Dodging Duck, on River Road across from River Road Park.  The gander would chase off people and even traffic to protect his nest.  One day, he was hit by a car and taken to rehabilitation.  Unfortunately, Papa Gander never recovered and passed away.

Friday, city leaders unveiled a bronze statue modeled after Papa Gander in the newly re-done River Road Park. He'll guide future generations of goslings to the water.
