BOERNE - No dice necessary: a tied county commissioner race ended up decided by the voters instead of a die roll.

Republican Kendall County Commissioner Precinct 1 candidates Mike Fincke and Charlie Boyd IV were tied after the runoff election with 623 votes each.  State law says that candidates must "cast lots" in the event of a tie, meaning something like a die roll, flip of a coin, or drawing straws would determine the winner.

In a recount Monday morning, officials determined that a mail-in ballot had been miscounted after the runoff and Fincke actually had come out ahead of Boyd, 623-622.

Both candidates said they were happy the race ended up decided by the voters instead of by rolling a die.

Fincke is not facing a Democratic challenger for the seat in November.
