BOERNE, Texas -- Officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the death of a bicyclist who was killed by a hit and run driver.

Troopers say 69-year-old Larry Eugene Becker of Boerne was cycling along Interstate 10 near Pfeiffer Road around 7:15 p.m. Thursday when he was hit. Becker was spotted by a passerby who called 911. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no witnesses, but investigators are hoping surveillance video can reveal what happened.

I knew him for many years. My father and him were great friends in the military. We called him Uncle Larry. He wasn't riding his bike on the highway, People are misreading the articles. He was a great man who helped so many people. Larry was very dear to us, please be kind with your words. . .This is a hard time for his family and friends. Thank you for those who care.

My biggest gripe is this -- the driver didn't even stop!! Excuse me? You just ran down a person, you idiot! You don't keep going like you'd just hit a squirrel running in front of you. That is totally inexcuseable. Makes my blood boil that this so-called "person" knew they had hit someone and kept going without even stopping to assist or get some kind of help!

I would love to be able to ride my bike somewhere in San Antonio but with so many distracted drivers I'm afraid.

210bro's just showing us more of his ignorant attitude. Why are we surprised? It's very sad that a person, a doctor, died and all knucklehead can do is insult the dead. My sympathies to Dr. Becker's family.

So sad sorry to the Becker Family. We see this so often. If it was me I would not ride on the streets and never near the highway. Why not go to a park or somewhere that is meant for riding. My brother rides often but he goes to a park and rides the trails that were meant for this to avoid having to drive on roads with vehicles. Too dangerous why even chance it. To all those that do ride bikes it goes both ways.

@Gnaeus, he was on the access road, not the highway. Bikes are prohibited by law to be on the highways.

This is a real tragedy, but the highways are made for motorized vehicles that travel at high speed...this is not the place to bicycle!! Bicyclists need to use more common sense than to ride on the frontage road or high traffic roads. Vehicle drivers have enough to just watch out for other drivers much less a slow moving bicycle. Please think before you go riding.

@bro210, I'm tired of ignorant people such as yourself. Cyclists ride for fun, fitness, and the pure enjoyment of being outdoors. Not so they can feel like Lance Armstrong. What an ignorant statement. I'm an avid cyclist and put myself out on the roads regularly. Put yourself in our shoes and imagine being buzzed by 4000 lb plus vehicles as you ride. What is so important that you can't slow down for a few seconds to wait for a safe time to pass a cyclist. It's people like yourself that make me sick to my stomach. My thoughts an prayers go out tohe Becker family.

He claims to drive an SUV, but he's probably one of those rice boys that drives a honda civic with a fart cannon and a tinfoil rear wing, VTEC stickers, and flies by you with his hazards flashing after you smoke his butt in a race. Probably wears his hat sideways with the sticker still on the bill too.
