SAN ANTONIO -- A 37-year-old Bexar County woman is accused of kidnapping a 1-year-old child.
Francine Bevans was arrested Monday. The child's mother, who resides in California, told investigators she allowed her child to travel to San Antonio with a relative to visit Bevans. The relative returned to California after nine days without the child and told the mother she'd left the child with Bevans. The mother told investigators she contacted Bevans during the next few weeks to find out when Bevans would be returning the child. She said Bevans repeatedly said she would arrive soon.
When Bevans still did not return the child, the mother said she traveled to San Antonio. She told investigators went to two different addresses Bevans had texted to her. She said the homeowners at the first address told her Bevans did not live there. When she went to the second address, she discovered it was abandoned.
The mother then contacted Bexar County Sheriff's Office investigators, who tracked down Bevans and arrested her.
