SAN ANTONIO -- One month ago, Julio Escamilla received the horrible news that his 31-year-old brother Juan had been shot and killed outside the Planet Fitness where he worked while walking his friend Maggie McCombs to her car. It has been even more difficult watching Juan's 9-year-old son go through the pain of missing his father.
"We are going through a healing process," Julio told us. "But the most part is staying positive for his son and for everybody and cope with it in a positive way and live life the way my brother would of wanted us to live it."
That's why Julio and his family have stayed close to Maggie and her family. They have now also thought of a way to help Maggie, who suffered serious injuries from the shooting and is paralyzed.
Julio will use his business "Sole Boutique" to put on called "Sneaker Palooza." It's a street culture event where they showcase all kinds of artists and their work, cool merchandise, and have two top hip hop performers. This year's Sneaker Palooza will have the theme "Stop the Violence," remembering his brother Juan, Maggie and all other victims of violence.
Sneaker Palooza will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Shriner Auditorium at 901 N. Loop 1604 W. on Sunday, March 11, 2012. Pre-sale tickets will be sold at Sole Boutique at 4025 Broadway for $40.00, or you can get them at the gate for $60.00. Ten percent of all proceeds from sales will go to help Maggie McCombs and her family.
