STOCKDALE, Texas -- An arrest warrant has been issued for the owner of a group horses and cows left starving at a home in Stockdale.
Wilson County Sheriff investigators have not yet released the name of the animal owner, but told News 4 WOAI the 87-year-old man is expected to turn himself in Thursday afternoon.
News 4 WOAI first reported about the animal cruelty investigation Wednesday, when neighbors complained more than a dozen cows and horses were left for weeks without food in a dirt-filled pasture on County Road 427. Many of the animals are skinny and underweight. Some horses are even sick with open sores on their sides.
Sheriff deputies worked with staff from Blue Bonnet Equine Humane Society to rescue the sickest mare and foal from the bunch. Workers say the mare is very weak, and they are doing everything they can to keep her alive right now.
Investigators said they are actively working the animal cruelty case while looking for a suitable place for the cows and horses that remain on the property.
