SAN ANTONIO - Safety of children in schools is on the minds of local law enforcement. Police Chief William McManus held a critical meeting Wednesday for all school and university police chiefs on handling potential threats on their campuses.

After the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, Chief McManus said their goal was to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to handling any potential threats.

Chief McManus said, "We are going to great lengths to make sure that we are coordinated as one body, all the law enforcement jurisdictions in the city are coordinated as one body if we were to have to respond to an incident as what happened in Newtown.”

Every school district's plan the chief says includes immediate response, alert training which is how officers respond to an active shooter situation and communication with other agencies.

Chief McManus will also meet with superintendents and administrators from Region 20 tomorrow on emergency planning.

Too bad when the SAOEM offered classes on just this type of situation, none of these educators bothered to go.
