SAN ANTONIO -- An apartment complex in the medical center area is on alert after the recent attacks on women.
"It makes everybody feel uncomfortable, " said Robert De La Garza, a security officer for the Hearthstone apartments.
The complex located at 8801 Cinnamon Creek is beefing up patrols, and even locking the laundry areas on the property by 10 p.m.
Five women have been attacked on the Northwest Side in the last few weeks. Police have noticed similarities in the reported attacks, and are now trying to determine if the women were all victimized by the same man.
The attacks happened between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. in the area near IH 10 west, north of loop 410 and south of Huebner Road. The women were attacked outside their apartments or cars, and all of them told police their attacker threatened them with a gun and demanded their purses.
"You hear a crime, but when you hear it's right in your back yard that's when you are most scared", said Hearthstone resident Melissa Munoz
Munoz says she makes sure she doesn't walk to her car alone, and she also has a security camera outside her apartment door.
Security officer Robert De La Garza said he wants everyone to feel safe. "We are making a presence out here, " added De La Garza.
De La Garza went on to say security staff will have extra patrols out Halloween night just in case. "
Meanwhile, police are advising women to be extra cautious and be aware of their surroundings.
