Animal rights activists rallied on the steps of San Antonio's City Hall Friday to help draw attention to the city's overwhelming pet population.

The group carried signs encouraging people to be responsible and get their animals spayed or neutered.

They also want potential pet owners to not purchase dogs and cats from illegal breeders.

"We're trying to reach "no kill" which means no healthy animals are killed, they're all adopted. We can't do that unless we reduce the animal population and to do that we've gotta cut down on the excessive breeding," said activist Joel Hailey.
