I would like to add that everyone with a soul has a mechanism to prevent such an occurrence. It is called a brain.

my question is...who feeds these dogs and makes sure they have water on a daily basis? what are those procedure? if it's the officer they were in the care of, how the hell did he take off and at some point NOT think "crap! i forgot to feed the pups and give them water!!" all it would have taken was one phone call

With or with out alarms this deputy is responsible for these k-9, period. What other inventory purchased by the sheriff's dept.is sitting on the shelves? Waste full. This is one of the resons why our taxes are so high, purchasing equipment and the not using it or disappearing.

I've come to a conclusion that the K9 Officers death is somewhat the Handlers fault for not asking questions about the safety for his partners, but the BLAME SHOULD GO SQUARELY ON SHERIFF ORTIZ!!!! The "Sheriff" and his office had the equipment to protect the K9s from this type of situation because of an identical incident that happened in 2010, but it was placed upon its inventory shelves to collect dust for TWO YEARS. Instead, during the Sheriffs debates, all he was “Proud of” was that he helped bring in a Parking garage and for the Trains not to blow its horns around the Sheriffs Dept so it can be a “Quiet Zone”. THAT’S WHAT HE’S ACCOMPLISHED DURING HIS FOUR YEARS IN OFFICE!?!? This is one of the many PREDICAMENTS that this so called "SHERIFF" has put the BCSO and its Officers through! Voting is today and I want ORTIZ out!!!! YOU SHOULD TOO

This crime was totally preventable. BCSO deputy Benoy, who is a sorry excuse for a law wnforcement officer as well as a sorry excuse as a human being, failed to protect his canine partners, and left them to die a slow painful death in a hot car. This incident is a disgrace. Deputy Benoy killed the partners he was sworn to protect as a law enforcemnt officer. How could he not be looking after the two partners who would have given their lives to protect his. Nothing short of termination of employment, restitution for the expense for the cost of the dogs as well as the vehicle, and criminal prosecution is acceptable in this case. Deputy Benoy, you have won the honor of being the most disgusting person of the year in Bexar County for 2012. Sheriff Ortiz, if you allow him to retire, you also share this honor.
