MEXICO CITY (AP) - A U.S. State Department official in Mexico says an American was found among the 193 corpses recovered in April in mass graves near the U.S. border.
The official says Mexican authorities identified the remains of a U.S. citizen in the graves of San Fernando, a town 85 miles (137 kilometers) from the border at Brownsville, Texas, and alerted the State Department.
The official, who spoke Tuesday, declined to be named because he was not authorized to speak on the record.
He did not identify the victim because the family has not authorized it.
Mexican officials said many of the victims in the graves were migrants heading to the U.S. who were kidnapped off buses by the Zetas drug cartel, killed and buried.
