ABILENE, Texas (AP) - A West Texas detective says the Dyess Air Force Base home of a toddler who died smelled of urine and feces from the children living there.

Abilene Police Detective Eric Vickers testified Monday at a military hearing for Senior Airman Christopher Perez. He is charged with child endangerment, failure to report child abuse and adultery.

The Abilene Reporter-News reports that Vickers told the court Perez was living with Tiffany Klapheke and her three young children.

Klapheke's 22-month-old daughter died in August after being found unresponsive at the home. The preliminary autopsy report says the toddler died from malnutrition and dehydration.

Evidence presented at Monday's hearing will determine if Perez should go to trial.

Klapheke, a civilian, is charged with three counts of injury to a child.
