SCHERTZ, Texas -- Thomas Simms has lived in the same neighborhood for 30 years. During that time, his mail has had the same address on it with the same city and zip code. That is, up until several months ago.
Simms' Cibolo address now reads Schertz, which he says that has left he and his family confused.
"My son said 'Dad, what's going on?' I thought you lived in Cibolo," Simms told us.
The City of Schertz annexed the area Simms lives in back in 2001. Simms said he knew that, but it's taken years for the post office to officially make the switch.
"I don't know why they didn't change the name right away then," said Simms.
David Harris with the City of Schertz says about 3500 households and businesses were affected by the change. The list includes people living in subdivisions east of Interstate 35 around FM 1103 and those living in parts of southern Schertz.
The city says if you're affected by the switch, you can use either Cibolo or Schertz as your address as long as the zip code reads 78108.
Simms said he's happy he's finally able to have an address the reflects the city his actually lives in.
