COMFORT, Texas - 70 years ago, America was at war.  The bombing at Pearl Harbor killed about 2,400 people and in the aftermath of the attack, America was looking to strike back.

One man, Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, had a daring plan. 80 men flew B-25 bombers in a dangerous air strike against Japan.

One of the surviving "Doolittle Raiders" lives in the Hill Country, about an hour outside San Antonio.  News 4 WOAI's Lauren Lea talked to Lt. Col. Dick Cole about the Doolittle Raid and his love of flying. Click here to watch...

I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Lt. Col. Cole this past year at the Randolph Air Show. He is such a down to earth man. I was standing there and he came up to me introduced himself, by only his first name. It took me a moment to realize who exactly I was talking to. He doesn't think of himself as a hero or that he did anything extraordinary, he just thinks of it as that was his job. Thank you so very much for your bravery and service to this great country.

@Longhorn: You are so right!!! I agree, God Bless this member of "The Greatest Generation". I do, however, want to add God Bless ALL veterans of our armed forces that have put their lives on the line to protect this country, us, and our freedoms, whether the actions were popular or not. Because, believe or not, right or wrong, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan....someone has believed that ultimately the freedoms and rights of the USA and other "free" countries were ultimately at risk.
