WICHITA, Kansas (NBC News Channel) -- William Hall and his wife found their 8-year-old son Cade yelling that a man entered their Wichita, Kansas home and stole a purse.

"By the second scream, we knew something was bad. So we started running," William Hall said.

They opened the front door and off ran Roscoe, Cade's dog, chasing the suspect. That's when William took off chasing the man with his wife's purse. William chased the suspect down an embankment toward I-135. The suspect cleared the first lane but was hit by a car in the middle land of southbound I-135.

"Full speed at 60 miles an hour. I mean he went underneath the car, and he was face down in the middle lane of 135. My wife's wallet was two feet from his hands, he never let go of it," Hall said.

Tonight, Hall is glad his family is safe and says Roscoe gets an extra biscuit.

Police say if a robber takes something from your home, it's best to let the robber run and call the police instead.

As for the suspect, he remains in the hospital. Police say he is expected to recover.

I agree catwalk. The lazy PD in this town would've taken a report over the phone, and that would have been the last of it. Too bad they didn't have a concealed hand gun, so that they could've just shot his thieving b-u-t-t!

Let him take the purse? Let him go? ..... NO WAY ... Good for them. The police wouldn't have gotten him as well as the folks and dog chased him.
