AURORA, Colorado -- Another Texas native has been identified among the dozen killed during a mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater on Thursday night.
According to a statement released on behalf of his family, 51-year-old Gordon Cowden of Aurora, Colorado was with his two teenage children when an armed gunman open fire in the theater Denver area theater during a midnight showing of Dark Knight Rises.
Here is what the family had to say:
"Loving father, outdoorsman and small business owner, Cowden was a true Texas gentleman that loved life and his family. A quick witted world traveler with a keen sense of humor, he will be remembered for his devotion to his children and for always trying his best to do the right thing, no matter the obstacle. The family wishes to express appreciation for the concern and prayers offered us during this very difficult time. Our hearts go out to everyone that has been harmed by this senseless tragedy."
Gordon Cowden, originally from Austin, is the oldest of the 12 shooting victims identified so far. The youngest victim was just 6-years-old.
Both of Cowden's children who were with him at the midnight movie screening escaped the theater unharmed.
