SAN ANTONIO -- Police have arrested a 25-year-old man they say scalded his girlfriend's 4-year-old son.
Louis Jaramillo is charged with injury to a child. An arrest warrant affidavit states Jaramillo got upset with the boy and began spanking him on October 15th. Police say he then took the boy into the bathroom and closed the door. The boy's mother said she heard her son screaming that the water was too hot and was trying to get Jaramillo to let him out. She told police when her son came out of the bathroom, she found the skin had been burned off his right foot and ankle.
According to investigators, Jaramillo and the boy's mother attempted to treat the burn themselves for eight days, but the boy was unable to walk and his foot and ankle began smelling, blistering, and sticking to the bandages. The affidavit states when they called EMS on October 23rd, the boy's foot was swollen and bleeding. Police said the boy spent two weeks in the hospital and required numerous surgeries and skin grafts and will require additional care in the future.
Investigators stated markings on the boy's right ankle and the lack of any splash burns indicate he was held by force in scalding hot liquid.
