HOUSTON (AP) - Authorities in the Houston area say they've detained a person of interest in connection with today's shooting on the campus of a community college.

The shooting sent students fleeing for safety, and prompted officials to put the Lone Star College campus on lockdown. The college issued an alert on its website telling students and faculty to take immediate shelter or avoid the campus.

According to a law enforcement official in Washington, authorities believed there could be a second shooter.

A spokeswoman for the Harris County Health System said two people were taken to a hospital emergency center. But a sheriff's spokesman says three people were injured.

Student Cody Harris says he was in a classroom with about six or seven other students, waiting for the psychology class to start, when he heard eight shots. He says he and the other students fled the room.

Another student who was in a second-floor lab says he didn't think the noise came from gunfire at first -- but once people in the lab realized what it was, they fled to a nearby student services center.

twister2, here's a very good, informative article that you and everybody else needs to read. It's a VERY GOOD explanation of YOUR side of the political spectrum, the tactics used, and media bias. Please, please, please, read, heed, and enjoy. Polls today are meaningless, what city or state did they take the data from, who did they ask (urban or rural), how did they ask trhe questions (direct yes or no or as a convoluted string of what ifs and hows), etc. Look at the polls on this site to get an idea of what people in this part of the worls think, don't think they would have the same outcome as twister is claiming.

Hate to tell you this, Lervia, but I'm probably not in the minority on this issue, based on recent polls. The problem with you extreme Conservatives is you surround yourselves with like minded people, listen solely to conservative pundits, then are genuinely surprised that there are different points of view.

twister2, you are still a little fool. You're also in the minority in your opinion and thoughts!!! THANK GOD!!!!! Want to help the "problem" or make a difference, fight for less violence in video games, on TV, or in movies. Fight FOR family togetherness, responsiblility, love, intelligence, & honesty...........to name a few. Argue and fight for family time spent together, be it in the kitchen preparing the HEALTHY and LOW calorie meal that the family SITS DOWN TOGETHER TO SHARE, or for more honest, responsible, and less violent offerings on TV, movie, sitcom, or show. The answers are truly pretty simple, but they take resolve, honesty, maturity, and will power to implement. It takes the personal integrity and honesty to acknowledge where the fault lies and wanting to or working toward improving the situation. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

This is what happens when guns are readily available. Not only did the people fighting get hurt, others were caught in the crossfire.

bm187 do you really think there will be a lull in these shootings? The crazies see what happened on TV and thought, oh yeah, I could do that. As long as they are glorified on the media there will be shootings. They need to report it and be done with it. The survivors don't want it on the TV day in and day out.

Now is not the time to talk about this. Maybe we can schedule a debate 4 and half years from now when there's a lull in the shooting sprees.

SO, here you go: You can regulate guns, you can regulate ammo, you can regulate how guns are obtained, you can regulate gun shows and where they are held.....you CANNOT regulate crazy. It will happen no matter how many laws you pass.
