DALLAS (AP) - A judge has given a man two consecutive life sentences plus 85 years in prison for killing a security guard at a Dallas ATM machine and committing five armed robberies.
Enrique Lopez was sentenced Wednesday in Dallas federal court. He pleaded guilty in July.
Prosecutors say Lopez participated in a string of 2009 robberies that included holding up private security guard Cresencio Borquez while he was replenishing an ATM with cash. Lopez shot Borquez multiple times before fleeing in a car driven by an alleged co-conspirator.
Lopez and an alleged accomplice, Jesus Sandoval, were arrested in October 2009 after a high-speed chase. Prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty following the plea agreement. Sandoval is scheduled for trial Nov. 5.
