SAN ANTNIO - A dare turned deadly for a 12-year-old girl on the city's West Side Friday night. Police say Casandra Perez and a group of teens were daring each other to run across the Loop 410 access road outside Skateland West at 11:30 p.m.

Casandra and a friend were running across the road and the friend made it safely across. However, police say the friend turned around in time to see Casandra get hit by a car exiting the freeway.

She was taken to University Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Saturday evening, dozens of friends and family members gathered just feet away from where Casandra was killed. She was a week shy from her 13th birthday and she had just made the volleyball team.

Her aunt, Josie Perez, says her legacy is warning other children to not play dangerous games and for parents to watch over their children and know where they are at all times.

The driver will not be facing any charges. The family has opened an account at Security Services and is asking for your help.

I went to the same school as this poor girl and I have to say this girls death has made quite an impact on some peoples lives and she must have been an amazing person. Though I have been to skateland before and to see that all the kids there are there alone is quite scary. From what I have heard she was an amazing person and a great girl. I am glad i had the chance to go to the same schoolas her and I am sorry that I didn't get the chance to get to know her better

Nickles - Why do make a absurd comment on a story 6 months old? It has nothing at all to do with the story, or is that the point?

This right here is why people like Dodie Lee and Deacon Tom are dangerous infidels intent on destroying society, because they are determined to dare each one of us to pray for deliverance, and that dare, this challenge, is nothing but a duel demanded by Satan. You see, these trolls are all instruments of the devil himself. My name is Mike, and I alone know the difference between truth and abolitry, which is a word I just made up. Write it down.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this was not a dare. The statement was made by a boy that wasn't even there. Since then there have been threats against the girl that ran with her. She is heartbroken and can't even bring herself to go to school. So don't believe everything you see in the news.

My prayers go out to the Perez family. It was a honor to be Cassandra's Pre-K teacher. I loved having Cassandra in my class. She was sweet, considerate of others, caring and always helpful. I remember how she was always very loving and protective of her younger brother--she truly was a sweet girl. Please know that I'll always remember her, as I'm sure the other teachers and staff remember her. She was one no one could forget. Sincerely, Ms. Ruth Gonzales

actually joicat I don't have a cold heart, really I don't. I just have no tolerance for stupidity. If these children are old enough to be left alone at such an hour, then they are smart enough not to dare nor take on dares such as this. As for the parents of these children, I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. My sympathy lies with the driver.
