His mom comes on TV doing her fake baby cries blames everything from Bi Polar issues to the Police. Hmmm I did not know our Police Officers forced people to drink and drive. She warned the Police to do what lady. He is YOUR SON......you still have him. So please put away those fake tears and let you son take ownenrship of what he had done. It only falls on him on one else. And if the mom wants to point fingers maybe she needs to take a look at herself.

This guy needs to go to prison and stay there because he hasnt learned anything from all of the mistakes he has made. I know him and his family. The immediate are all messed up. This guy doesnt give a damn about anything or anyone, not even himself!!!

CarolCastenada, Perhaps the "accused" refused a breatalizer and that's why they (the police officers) drew blood? A great American President once said, and I paraphrase, "It is better to be silent and thought of as stupid, rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt". Carol, Really???? Think before you post!!!Oh and I did not realize words could "slumber".

@Carolcastaneda Yeah he may have not been intoxicated by alcohol but that doesnt mean he was not intoxicated with other drugs (narcotics, prescription drugs etc) and leave him off the hook. Either way he would have been under the influence of something. On the other hand laws here are way to easy on drunk drivers...too many people die and these drunks keep coming back to the streets with a slap on the wrist. Tougher punishments should be enforced. Making Bexar county a dry county wont solve much. People will simply go buy the booze elsewhere and still do the same thing.

Use this POS as a crash test dummy with no airbags.

News flash, @210bro, making a county “dry” is still no guarantee that you won’t have DWIs. I DO want access to guns and beer. What I also want, is for people to learn some self-control. Drinking a beer or mixed drink does not make you drunk. Owning a gun does not make destined to shoot someone. If people choose to make bad choices, the only recourse is to increase the punishment for their bad choices. Here’s an idea for you…let’s have an automobile sales cap! If Bexar county has X number of traffic fatalities from whatever cause, then 10% of the cars on the road are randomly destroyed! To punish everyone for the bad acts of others is just stupid. Oh, and @carolcastaneda, did YOU read the article? As a result of the blood draw, they charged him with intoxication manslaughter. Duh.

One more thing...he showed SIGNS....meaning what? His words were slumbered? He was weak or unable to walk a straight line. He just hit a car with 4 children! I would be showing signs that resemble those of intoxication too...and i dont get drunk! Thats why they drew blood...they didnt smell it it was not obvious. I'm not defending a drunk driver, either. I am defending a man who caused an accident who showed signs of possible intoxication...it is possible he drank the night before, slept it off and felt it was early enough to go whereever...we dont know the whole story. Bottom line. We dont know the whole story.

I agree with what most of you are saying, but did you read the entire story? They drew blood to see if he was intoxicated. They didnt do a breathalizer for a reason, it wasnt an obvious drinking and driving case. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Yes, the fatalities of drunk driving in this city are ridiculous, but not every accident is a result of irresponsible drinking. Wait for the results, pray for the babys family and cross our fingers that this man wasnt intoxicated. As Americans and as a community, we have no right to judge. Not yet, anyway, until wehave the results.

Its not the judge its the jurors and procecutors. The average sentence from a judge for DWI deaths was 19.4 years in prison vs. 10.6 years to probation from juries. It comes down to how much sobbing you can do and the sympathy you can get. It's a shame that people fear driving the roads of San Antonio late at night because of the possibility of being hit by a drunk driver. I personally feel if you get a DWI it should go on your license so every bartender knows not to serve you.
