SAN ANTONIO -- A woman in a wheelchair was hit by a VIA bus Thursday evening on St. Mary's St., near Cesar Chavez.

The woman's daughter said she was walking a few feet ahead of her mother on the sidewalk when she suddenly heard a crash.

"I turned around and her chair was in the street and she was sprawled out in the street. It was terrible," her daughter Joan Leek said. "I was praying she was alive."

The woman may have suffered back and shoulder injuries, but police said she should be okay.  Leek said her mother's motorized wheelchair was acting up before the accident and that may have caused her to drive off the sidewalk into the street.

Police and VIA are investigating.

I'm guessing her daughter was the one texting while waling and wasn't paying attention to what her elderly Mom was doing. I hope the Mom is OK, and to the daughter, pull your head out of your fat phone arsh and pay attention.

So did she hit the bus, or did the bus hit her?

Perhaps she is reconsidering her earlier statement to the police and that is why no one is speaking to the police. (From the article): "Leek said her mother's motorized wheelchair was acting up before the accident and that may have caused her to drive off the sidewalk into the street".
