Most people are familiar with the phrase "When the cat's away, the mice will play." According to Rachel Zupek of CareerBuilder.com, it has never been more true than when the boss is away.

Zupek says workers sneak out early, come in late, chitchat with co-workers more frequently, make more personal calls and even enjoy a cocktail while on an extra-long lunch.

Lets see when I am at work if my boss is there or not I make Doctors appointments for myself and my child. Pay all my bills and sometimes make personal phone calls to my best friend at her job. And when my boss at work she does all the same things. If its ok for her to do it then it is ok for me to do it. Oh and I am at work right now. Every one needs to lighten up. If you work a normal job between the hours of 8-5 you will have to do some personal things while at work because those are the hours that most businesses are open. As long as you get the work done that is all that matters.

Gran Torino, did you mean the bosses "Go home eary, take extra time for lunch, surf the net and have personal phone calls while at work"? cuz, that's what I have seen. What I also see is being raked over the coals for being minutes late. Assignments presented yet due days later when the boss had months of knowledge of deadlines. Get past up for promotions, only to have to "train" the new hire. ***I don't have it out for all bosses, I have a great boss; he understands the balance between getting work done and not harping on the small stuff. My comments here are of a collective of my experiences. (In case he reads this.)
