NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- The driver of an 18-wheeler was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 35 in New Braunfels.

New Braunfels police were called to an accident involving a Fed Ex truck on Interstate 35 near Loop 337 around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. While en route to that accident, the officers came across a 2000 Freightliner tractor trailer towing a box trailer that was partially engulfed in flames. The driver, 51-year-old Damian Antonio Lopez of San Antonio, was killed in the crash. Police say a preliminary investigation shows Lopez lost control of the tractor trailer, possibly due to hydroplaning, then jackknifed, and crashed into the center concrete barrier and bursts into flames.

Officials say the retaining wall hit by the big rig has major damage.

Police in Schertz are investigating the accident involving the Fed Ex truck. In that accident, a truck tractor carrying double trailers rolled over.

Its sad that you guys have absolutly no respect for my father. He gave his life doing his job. He drove a semi all his life and was a very conciensious driver obviously the fact that anyone can comment on this report is bad because you have people disrepecting the person (my Dad) who has died. again have more respect.

Yeah, I agree, the accidents involving big rigs aren't always the rig drivers fault. I asked one what the hardest part about driving a big truck is, and he simply stated "the cars that pull in front of them, especially the small cars" It is way too hard for these trucks to stop at the drop of a hat. I also agree that they need to slow down, since they CAN'T stop quickly. There are just too many drivers on the road, plus cell phones, drunks, etc....

There are a LOT of hideously bad drivers on the roadways these days, and that includes the “professionals” as well as the drivers of cars, trucks and motorcycles. Often, 18 wheeler accidents are caused by idiots in cars or pick-up trucks who are never touched by the accident they cause, cutting in front of the big rigs. I agree in part with @bb1104…never, ever ride next to, or behind or in front of a big rig if you can possibly avoid it. Their trucks throw tread that can hit your vehicle, and they have visibility issues we don’t. Give them room and share the road. On the other hand, those big rig drivers shouldn’t bully their way around other traffic, and while I realize some are paid by the mile, which makes speeding mean more money in a given day, it’s not worth your life. Everybody, slow down, hang up, and drive courteously. It’s scary out there and the life you save may be your own. Prayers for this man's family.

I must say this doesnt surprise me. 18 wheeler's drive recklessly. I know because I see it everyday on my way to work. I avoid getting in front, behind or side of an 18 wheeler as I fear they will loose control. Even in the pouring rain they drive at least 80 on that stretch of the hwy, I dont even drive that fast when its raining. Really need to slow down. There have been way to many 18 wheeler accidents this year.

Keep flying. That's what you get. Thankfully no one else died other than this dindong. As for below, this one didn't deliver jack s other than himself to the other side. And just because you drive a rig, doesn't give you the right to drive recklessly.

Once again its proof that they need a highway of their own to avoid such accidents. Or try slowing down that might help avoid accidents! Idiots!
