I witnessed the accident and he wasn't "drunk" like the news are saying, he was on his way home from Holmes high school and he just happens to be on the wrong place on the wrong time, I know he is an illegal immigrant but everybody deserves a chance on this country as our ancestors did, I know he did wrong and he has to pay for it but don't be so cruel with him.

@donoho I did not know he was illegally in the country till this accident. But I'm just saying y'all shouldn't be calling him names when y'all didn't even know him!

Well, @Supra123, if you know/knew this kid, did you also know he was here illegally? If so, you ought to be charged as an accessory to his crimes, along with his parents. Yes, young people make stupid choices and stupid mistakes, and often pay for the poor choices their parents make. Regardless, there is a huge debt here that this kid and his family must pay.

Had he not committed his first crime of being in the country illegally, Brandon could be riding his bike this afternoon. If he was brought to this country illegally by his parents, then they share the blame. Their absence from San Antonio could have saved a life.

Wow. I was looking at some of these comments and noticed that y'all call the driver a slob, punk killer, & he deserves to be executed? Y'all didn't even know him? He was a good kid, did good in school, was a great friend to many people, and wasn't known for drinking? Yes, I find it stupid how he was on his phone and dropped it. He happened to jump the wrong curb at the wrong time. He does deserve time for his actions, but I think it's stupid when y'all don't even know him and y'all can say he was a slob, punk killer etc...

Phrilly is right. Back in the day I too used to invade another country, got drunk in their land, and then killed one of their children riding a bike. Happens to the best of us.

Hogwash - There are two families that lose here. Yes, one of them didn't have a child die but to the other family they lose their child as well to jail probably for life. It doesn't have anything to do with how the kid was brought up, it was the decisions made by the kid. Parents can't be with them all the time. They just hope that they have taught their kid to have enough sense to do right. This is coming from a Mom that has thought that as well. My child didn't kill anyone but I was introduced to jail and bailbonds that I never thought I would see. But he did choose to do something that he knew better about. I left him in jail for two weeks, he has never been back. I guess you could say he was scared straight. This was just a terrible accident, something you or I could do at one time or another. Both families are devestated for different reasons so get off your soap box.

Tougher laws are not the answers. What happened here was tragic. There should be more awareness of the consequences when anyone gets behind the wheel. This should be an example to other teens. That driving should be taken seriously.
